Amsterdam, Take Two – Photo Essay
The second time I went to Amsterdam, the weather could not be worse. It was stormy, windy and wet for almost the whole day. We were in our ugly rain coats the entire time. It only calmed down a bit in the late afternoon. Felt a bit bad that it was the Amsterdam that my mom and aunties got to see, since we only spent a day there (I myself have spent 4 days last winter), but I think even the worst of Amsterdam is still prettier than a lot of cities in the world. Check out the photos I took that day and tell me if you think it’s true :) (click for bigger pictures)
The new thing that I went to this time is the openbare Bibliotheek or the National Library of Amsterdam that is close to Amsterdam Centraal station. It is a high-tech library that looks like the library of Apple, what with the all white design and iMacs everywhere. It’s worth going even if you’re not a fan of library for its 7th floor cafe. There’s a huge cafe – that seems very popular with people since it was crowded – with lots of interesting fresh looking food. On that floor there’s a terrace where you can overlook the city of Amsterdam from above.
Another nice vantage point was the cafe on top of DoubleTree hotel – also nearby, which is the hotel we stayed at the last time (yay for promotional price!). The cafe is surrounded by glass from floor to ceiling. Very fancy.
More random things around Amsterdam:
“Homomonument commemorates all women and men ever oppressed and persecuted because of their homosexuality. Supports the international lesbian and gay movement in their struggle against contempt discrimination and oppression. Demonstrates that we are not alone. Calls for permanent vigilance.“
Not bad, considering we’re looking like this almost the whole day:
